Eejot (ईजोत) means light in Maithili language.

Founded in 2009, Eejot is a US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organizaiton dedicated to improving education in the remote villages of Nepal through computer literacy and open source technology. We also partner and collaborate with other organizations primarily in the areas of improving health and running medical camps.

The Story of Eejot

Founded by Prabhat Jha, his family and friends, Eejot was born from a desire to give back to their home village of Sisautiya in the Sarlahi district of Nepal. Sisautiya is a typical village in southern Nepal where resources are scarce.

Eejot is run solely by volunteers who believe that access to technology is the "light" that can guide rural students toward a brighter future in the global economy.

Our Initiatives

We don't just collect and donate hardware; we build sustainable knowledge ecosystems using Internet and Open Source tools.

Computer Literacy

We establish training centers in villages like Sisautiya where students can learn basic computing, typing, and essential software skills.

Digital Library

Books are heavy and hard to transport. We focus on building digital libraries, providing thousands of educational resources on a single hard drive.

OSS Awareness

Commercial software is expensive. We promote Open Source Software (OSS) like Linux to ensure schools can maintain their systems without costly licenses.

Our Impact in Nepal

See the faces and places transformed by access to technology and education.
